Dermal fillers like Juvéderm® are a great way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and collagen loss. If you want to get rid of your wrinkles or restore volume to your lips and cheeks, contact San Jose Oral Surgery and Implantology.
What is Juvéderm?
Juvéderm is a family of dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid. Our Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon injects Juvéderm into your skin to replace volume lost to declining collagen and elastin fibers in your skin.
Collagen and elastin are two of the fibers that allow your skin to return to a smooth appearance after you smile and keep your skin looking plump and youthful. However, as you age, your body produces less collagen and elastin, and over time, signs of aging such as wrinkles, thin lips, and loose, sagging skin appear.
How does Juvéderm work?
Juvéderm is a gel made from hyaluronic acid, one of the chemicals in your skin that helps it look youthful and firm. Our surgeons inject the Juvéderm gel into your skin to fill in wrinkles and loose skin to restore your appearance. For example, our surgeons can use Juvéderm to address skin concerns, including:
- Nasolabial folds
- Thinning lips
- Lost volume and contouring in your cheeks
- Loose skin around your jaw
- Eye bags
What should I expect during a Juvéderm treatment?
You should set aside around an hour for a dermal filler appointment. Our Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon begins by cleaning your skin and providing a topical anesthetic to keep you comfortable while he makes the injections. He studies your skin carefully and marks the best places to make your Juvéderm injections.
Our surgeon starts to make your injections and occasionally stops to monitor his progress or gently massage the gel into place. His goal is to give you a naturally youthful appearance.
You don’t need to take any time off after your dermal filler appointment, although you should avoid vigorous activity for 24 hours after your appointment. Your results are immediately noticeable and could last for up to two years depending on the specific product, location of your injections, and other factors.
